Ripe juicy summer figs & salty Italian ham come together in the ultimate sweet & savory bite. This quick and easy appetizer will impress with little effort. In 15-minute this recipe is ready. A tasty gluten-free first course or small bite for parties.
Preheat the oven to 400°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with nonstick spray if needed.
Wash and dry the fresh figs. Remove any stems. Using a sharp knife, stand up each fig and slice each in half vertically. If the base/bottom is tough or woody, slice it off.
Place the figs, cut side up, on the baking sheet & top with blue cheese, if using it.
Cut each slice of prosciutto in half longways. This is so each strip is a long narrow piece & now you have 12 strips. Wrap each strip around each fig half with the ends coming together on the top.
Once the oven is preheated, place the figs on the center rack to cook. Roast the figs for 5 minutes.
Using a spoon, lift the figs gently off the baking sheet & arrange on a serving platter.** the figs will be soft so using tongs will squish them, a spoon is best.
Serve while warm. For added flavor drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Enjoy!
