    Best Store-Bought Enchilada Sauce

For the best store-bought enchilada sauce, check out this complete list. The best brands of canned enchilada sauce jarred sauces, and more help make cooking enchiladas at home so much easier.  Whether you buy it on Amazon or at your local grocery stores like Trader Joe's, Wal-Mart, or Whole Foods, all of these mass-produced enchilada sauces are the best to buy off the shelf.  These are the best restaurant-quality sauce brands for red, green, spicy, or mild authentic enchiladas.

The reviews listed here are my own and I have not received any products to endorse.  All of these ready-made sauces are recommended for baking tasty chicken, cheese, beef, seafood, or vegetable enchiladas.  I have reviewed common brands like Old El Paso, Rosarita, Hatch, Whole Foods, and Las Palmas.  But I have also shared the best other brands like Trader Joe's, Siete, & McCormick, which make great sauces and spices for enchiladas that you may not be as familiar with. Most of these canned enchilada sauces are gluten-free, vegetarian, & dairy-free so check the labels if you have a dietary need.

    BEST RED ENCHILADA SAUCES

These are the best bottled and canned red enchilada sauces you can buy.  All of these ready-made sauces are great to make homemade enchiladas, enchilada casserole, or other Mexican recipes.  There are also great economical red enchilada sauces, like Los Mochi's which I buy often as well from Wal-Mart. Check them out and decide which would be best to buy to feed your family some fresh-baked traditional enchiladas at home.

Best Store-Bought Enchilada Sauce can of red enchilada sauce and green cloth napkin

#1 - Enchilada Sauce Perfect for the Whole Family

This is my favorite red enchilada sauce to buy at the store.  Trader Joe's has been making this sauce for years and it is a fan favorite for good reason.  It is thick and coats enchiladas perfectly, actually staying on the enchiladas versus just running down the sides. It was the first one my kids really liked and started eating enchiladas at home.

It is the best sauce for any kind of enchilada and goes well with every type of filling from beef, chicken, pork vegetables, to cheese.  We serve this enchilada sauce often over onion and cheese enchiladas or with shredded chicken. But you can never go wrong when you cook with this bottled Trader Joe's Enchilada Sauce.

#2 - Best Canned Red Sauce for Enchilada Casserole

This is the sauce I always use when making enchilada casserole.  This canned red sauce by Old El Paso is thin, medium heat level, and balances acid with the spices.  The cumin, cayenne, and tomato base are great for layering with your favorite enchilada filling, tortillas, and cheese when making a casserole. I like this Old El Paso canned sauce for making homemade enchilada casserole because the sauce is not too thin nor too thick.  The moisture in the sauce is perfect for stacking dense layers when making the casserole without making the enchilada too soggy or too dry.

#3 Best Red Enchilada Sauce For Customizing

McCormick has enchilada sauce packets that are great for those who do not have a lot of pantry space. These thin envelope spice packets are a tasty ingredient when making homemade enchiladas.  The packet includes all the spices, with no MSG, to whisk up with water & tomato sauce for a great store-bought red enchilada sauce.   If I am already mixing my ground beef with tomato sauce for the enchilada sauce filling, this is my go-to enchilada sauce. The beauty of mixing enchilada sauce from the spice packet is you can make it as thin or thick as you want it depending on how much water you add.  We like it more on the thick side when making homemade beef enchilada with McCormick spices.

    BEST GREEN ENCHILADA SAUCES

These are the best bottled and canned green enchilada sauces you can buy.  All of these ready-made sauces are great to make homemade enchiladas, enchilada casserole, or other Mexican recipes.  Grocery store brands also make great economical green enchilada sauces, like Safeway's Signature Select which I buy often as well.  Check them out and decide which would be best to buy to feed your family some fresh-baked authentic enchiladas at home.

Best Store-Bought Enchilada Sauce 2 cans of green enchilada sauce

#1 - The Best Canned Mild Green Enchilada Sauce

This is my favorite green enchilada sauce to buy at the store.  It has a medium thickness and coats enchiladas perfectly, actually staying on the enchiladas versus just running down the sides. It is the best sauce for chicken enchiladas.  I like it also with cheese or vegetarian enchiladas.

#2 - The Best Hatch Green Chile Canned Enchilada Sauce

If you love a hatch green chile sauce for your enchiladas that is canned, this is your best bet.  This canned enchilada sauce is medium in heat level and has a rich chile flavor with traditional spices like cumin and garlic.  It is great with any kind of enchilada or enchilada casserole whether you like chicken, cheese, beef, or vegetables. I may add that this is my favorite enchilada sauce to serve with pork.

#3 - The Best Canned Spicy Hot Green Enchilada Sauce

This is the same brand as my favorite mild green enchilada sauce but in the Hot/Picante variety.  This spicy hot canned enchilada sauce is great when you want to add some real heat to your Mexican recipe.  It is great on enchiladas but I also use it to add heat to chicken chili or tortilla soups when I want a good spicy green sauce with Mexican spices.

    BEST BUDGET-FRIENDLY ENCHILADA SAUCES

This is also one of the best enchilada sauces you can buy in a can and it is easy on the wallet.  This inexpensive red enchilada sauce is tangy, spiced, and has a rich tomato flavor.  Besides the Trader Joe's one, this is my second favorite brand of enchilada sauce and it is budget-friendly with a big 28oz can typically between $1-2 online at Amazon or in your local grocery store.

    BEST SPECIAL DIET ENCHILADA SAUCES

No matter what special diet you or your family members may have, the best enchilada sauce is by Siete.  This store-bought enchilada sauce is paleo, dairy-free, grain-free, gluten-free, Whole30, low-sodium, and vegan.  It is the best enchilada sauce you can buy to please every dietary need.   Plus it is fantastic and comes in both red and green varieties. I love all of Siete's products since they are grain-free and tasty.  It is pricey but worth the money.

    Best Organic Enchilada Sauce

For good quality and budget-friendly priced organic enchilada sauce, the Whole Foods store brand is a great choice.  This enchilada sauce is also gluten-free and soy-free with good whole ingredients such as tomato puree, red bell peppers, chile peppers, and classic spices like cumin, chipotle, onion, and garlic. It is mildly spiced with a ton of flavor.
