The ultimate sweet, salty, crunchy, & chewy holiday treat for your sweethearts- Valentines' Day Caramel Pretzel Bites. Savory pretzel twists, chocolate covered caramel Rolos, & colorful conversation hearts make this recipe fun, festive, & yummy.

Why this Pretzel Treat Recipe is the Best: Unlike other recipes that simply use Hershey's Chocolate Kisses, these pretzel bites use Rolos for a gooey chewy chocolate caramel upgrade that makes these better than all the rest.
All you need is 3 ingredients and 3 minutes in the oven. Perfect for a fast and easy last-minute dessert to make for Valentine's Day gifts, potlucks, school parties, & celebrating with your loved ones.
This recipe using Rolo candies is similar to my Rolo Ritz Cracker Recipe, for a salty-sweet & decadent combo that's hard to resist. Ok, now we bake!

Ingredients
Here are the 3 simple ingredients needed. Classic conversation hearts with the cute sayings & pastel colors are what gives this a Valentine vibe.
Here are important notes for some ingredients:
- Pretzels - tiny twists (regular or gluten-free) are the correct size for this recipe.
- Rolo Candies - the chocolate-covered caramels are the sticky treats that holds everything together (buy unwrapped if you find them to help you save time)
- Conversation Hearts - Brach's traditional Valentine's Day favorite has 6 fruity flavors & pastel colors to delight.
See the recipe card for full list, quantities, & any substitutions/variations.
How to Make Valentine's Day Pretzels
These tiny treats are no fuss & ready in no time. The best dessert for kids, teens, & those new to baking - no mixing, measuring, or fancy equipment.
Here are the 2 easy steps for making Conversation Heart Pretzel Treats:
- Prep & Bake
- Decorate & Set
See the step-by-step instructions with photos below plus the recipe card at the end of the post.
1 - Prep & Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Begin by unwrapping all the Rolo candies.
Make sure to remove all the foil, sometimes it sticks on the bottom to the caramel. You may be able to find them already unwrapped - a timesaving win!
Line a baking sheet with pretzel twists - pick through the bag and use those that are whole without any broken edges. Top each twist with an unwrapped Rolo.
Bake in the 350°F oven for 3 minutes. The chocolate will just be softening and still holding there shape (not melting or puddling up).
2 - Decorate & Set
As soon as they come out it is time to add the sweetheart candies.
Finally, top each Rolo with a conversation heart & gently press down. This brings the chocolate caramel candy to the edges and flattens as shown above.
Let them cool for 30 minutes at room temperature or 5 minutes in the refrigerator.
Serving & Storing
Serve in a candy dish, bowl, or place on a platter with other treats. Sip a Pink Mocktail for a colorful duo.
These can be stored in an air tight container in a cool dry place for up to 2 weeks.
What to Serve with Pretzel Bites : I love a fun Valentine's Day Dessert Charcuterie Board - try setting these out with Red Velvet Brownies, Biscoff Truffles, & Pink Strawberry Brownies.
Recipe Tips & Behind the Scenes
Here's my recipe for success - including what I learned when testing, fun stories, recipe history, and more.
- #1 Tip - work fast once the Rolos are warm so the candies will press in and stick before cooling.
- So fun to make with kids but keep an eye on them so they don't gobble up all the candies first.
- Enjoy also for anniversaries or bachelorette parties; try girl power, silly, naughty adult varieties.
- Leslie Knope would surely love these for Galentine's Day!
- Can't find conversation hearts - Use Red Hots, heart candies, or red/pink sprinkles instead.
- For other holidays, use a different topper; try pastel M&Ms for Easter, gummy bears for baby showers, or candy corn for Halloween.
FAQ
Though not made into heart shapes until 1902, the candies had messages on them since the last 1890s. And now close to 10 billion are made every year.
My father was a pharmacist & though he didn't invent them - a pharmacist did; Oliver Chase, in Boston in 1847 invented "sweethearts". It was an attempt to make a lozenge.
