This delicious recipe for Ricotta Fig Toast is everything - creamy, crunchy, sweet, spicy, and savory. The taste of summer has arrived & I am here for it all season.

Why this Toast with Ricotta Cheese & Fresh Figs Recipe is the Easiest: I know it is all the rage right now, but no need to whip the ricotta for this yummy Italian toast. One less step makes this the best recipe out there.
Keeping it quick & simple makes this a go-to for any breakfast, appetizer, snack, or meal. This mediterranean-inspired recipe is also a healthy balance of protein, fiber, antioxidants, & prebiotics in every tasty bite.

This was inspired by my recipe for Fig & Brie Bruschetta. Both pair figs with cheese for a sweet & savory appetizer. Ok, now we toast!

Ingredients Ricotta Fig Toast
Besides fresh juicy figs, this recipe calls for just a few other items. Most important is the right type of bread: ciabatta, sourdough, or hearty whole grain loaves are best.
Please make sure your bread is a quality rustic bread that will give you wide slices. It will need to be sliced thin enough to bite into easily but be hearty enough to hold all the toppings.
This version is made without a balsamic glaze. Another reason this recipe is quicker than others.
Here are important notes for some ingredients:
- Crusty Bread - ciabatta, round sourdough, hearty whole grains
- Salted Butter - for the toast and helps add moisture & richness
- Ricotta Cheese - savory & mild; please usewhole milk is best, nothing whipped/strained or nonfat
- Fresh Figs - ripe summer fruit types such as Mission, Brown Turkey, Tiger or any other fig variety.
- Pistachios - shelled and chopped
- Hot Honey - the sweet spicy topping that brings it all together

How to Make Ricotta Fig Toast
Think of this recipe as a giant crostini. Simply toast the slices of rustic bread & top each with these classic Italian ingredients.
Here are the easy steps for making Toasted Bread topped with Ricotta, Figs, & Pistachios
- Slice & Toast the Bread
- Add the Toppings
- Drizzle & Eat
See the step-by-step instructions with photos below plus the recipe card at the end of the post.
If your bread is not already sliced, cut the loaf into 4 slices. Toast each slice in the toaster, toaster oven, or under the broiler until your desired doneness. (we like ours light & not too crunchy)
Butter one side of each toast slice as soon as it is done.

Spread the buttered toast with ricotta cheese. Top it so that it reaches the edges and is mostly covered.

Sprinkle on some diced fig pieces so they are evenly distributed over the ricotta as seen here.

Sprinkle on a few pistachios so there are a few in every bite.

Finally drizzle on some hot honey over the top.
Serving & Storing
Once assembled, dig in. This is meant to be enjoyed right away. Do not make this ahead of time since storing it for later or having leftovers is not recommended.
What to Serve with Ricotta Fig Toast : This recipe stands on its own as a snack or finger food appetizer. However if you wish to make this part of a meal here are some great pairings that go well with the star ingredients; ricotta & figs.
For breakfast serve this with slices of Toaster Oven Bacon or Soft Scrambled Eggs. For lunch or dinner pair it with an Italian Chopped Salad or Roasted Tomato Soup.

Recipe Tips & Behind the Scenes
Here's my recipe for success - including what I learned when testing, fun stories, recipe history, and more.
- #1 Tip - Use a sturdy bread that will give wide long slices - ciabatta, sourdough round, etc.
- If you don't want warm and cold ingredients, take the ricotta cheese out about 30 minutes before making this. The cold cheese & hot toast is amazing to me but do what you love.
- Add as little or more toppings based on what your bread will hold or what you desire.
- Try other fruits, nuts, or even plain honey if you don't like spicy foods or want a mild version for breakfast. See Recipe Card below for more ideas.
