In the United States, most volume measurements can be broken down into teaspoons, tablespoons, and cups. Once you know how many tablespoons are in ¼ cup, you can effortlessly convert between the two measurements. So if you don’t have a measuring cup handy, measuring spoons will do.

See the categories below to find just what you are looking for. No guesswork or estimating when cooking or baking. Make sure you have the exact amount needed so your recipe turns out perfect.

    Measuring Spoons vs Cups

When cooking or baking, using the right kitchen tools helps give you success with any recipe. For most recipes, you will likely be measuring out ingredients in either measuring cups or measuring spoons.

Measuring spoon sets include spoons that measure small amounts of wet or dry ingredients. Most measuring spoons come in groups of 6-10 different sizes in a range from ⅛ teaspoon (teaspoon) to 1 TB (Tablespoon).

Tablespoons measure larger than teaspoons and can be referred to in recipes with different abbreviations: Tablespoons may be listed as T, Tb, Tbs, TBS, and tablespoon (some upper & lowercase). Teaspoons may be listed as tsp, ts, or t (usually always lowercase).

Measuring cup sets include cups with handles that measure larger amounts of wet or dry ingredients. Most measuring cups used for liquids can measure between 1-4 cups. Sets of individual smaller cups are typically used for dry ingredients. Those sets usually have 4-6 different sizes from ⅛ cup - 1 cup. Cups may show up in recipes as C, cup, or Cup.

How to Measure ¼ cup using Tablespoons?

If you only have measuring spoons handy, measuring out ¼ cup is easy. You just need to remember this simple equation for how many tablespoons are in ¼ cup. Then you can do any conversion - like ½, ¾ cup.

Here is the equation that is a lifesaver in the kitchen!

    • 16 tablespoons = 1 cup
    • 0.25 x 16 = 4.

How Many Tablespoons in ¼ Cup?

    Liquid vs Dry Measurements

But wait there is more. When measuring liquid vs dry ingredients it is not apples to apples. There's a difference between ounces, which measure weight, and fluid ounces, which measure volume.

So what to do when reading a recipe? Follow my top tips for measuring out cups of liquid versus dry.

    • KITCHEN SCALE - when a recipe calls for dry ounces, use a kitchen scale to measure that exact amount. Do not estimate it in cups. A scale is key for making homemade french bread.
    • LIQUID MEASURING CUP - these are typically clear containers made of glass or plastic. The see-through cups have a handle and spout for easy pouring. Simply pour any liquid into the cup and make it level with the desired measurement line.
    • DRY MEASURING CUPS - typically a set of individual plastic cups that each have a specific measurement. Each holds the exact amount when leveled off with a flat edge.

You are welcome. The sheet protector is a great idea. I do that for recipes I tear out of my cooking magazines.
