    Guava Margarita (Guavarita)

    Jump to Recipe

Enjoy a pretty tropical cocktail with this Guava Margarita recipe, aka the Guavarita! The yummy drink is one of my go-to favorites when visiting Hawaii & now I enjoy it at home all summer long.

Guava Margarita Best guavarita recipe with tequila fruit juice and lime in a salted glass on the rocks

Why this Guava Margarita on the Rocks Recipe is Amazing: No blender needed and it's just 4 ingredients for this tequila drink making it simple enough shake up in just a minute.

I admit, I am a sucker for a colorful fruity cocktail. That's why as soon as I saw Trader Joe's come out with the new guava juice, I had to experiment.

Like my Watermelon Mint Martini, the pastel pink drink is a favorite for girl's night but honestly my husband likes it too. Who wouldn't? Ok, now let's get shaking!

    Ingredients for Guava Margaritas

The alcohol of choice for this cocktail is Tequila Blanco, "white tequila". The mild clear variety doesn't overpower the recipe and is best with any margarita recipe. It is also what I recommend when making a Texas Ranch Water.

If you don't love tequila this is the best way to enjoy a margarita. The sweet tangy guava flavor makes it 100% delish - be warned you will barely taste the alcohol but it has a kick so sip responsibly.

    Guava Margarita Ingredients with Labels

Here are important notes for the ingredients:

    • Guava Nectar - tropical fruit juice; I am using Trader Joe's which has some white grape juice too
    • Tequila Blanco - white tequila that is 100% agave; Kirkland, Don Julio, Casamigos, or even budget Jose Cuervo
    • Limes - real fruit juice and cut into wedges
    • Simple Syrup - touch of sweetness to balance the alcohol
    • Himalayan Pink Salt - optional for the rim

See the recipe card for full list, quantities, & any substitutions/variations.

    How to Make a Guavarita

This margarita is served on the rocks, aka over ice. So all you need to do is get a fill a few glasses with ice & pour the shaken cocktail on top. Cheers!

Here are the easy steps for making a margarita with guava fruit juice:

    1. Salt the Rims
    2. Shake & Serve

See the step-by-step instructions with photos below plus the recipe card at the end of the post.

    1 - Salt the Rims

This makes two servings so grab two glasses that you like to use for margaritas. Low ball glasses are just fine or make it even fancier with some fun margarita glasses.

I like going with the pink theme and used Himalayan salt instead of a standard margarita salt for rimming.

    Margarita Glasses salt and lime.

Also grab some pink Himalayan salt or any cocktail salt you like. Begin by cutting one of the limes into wedges.

Guava Margarita Two glasses one with ic and salted rim next to lime and plate with pink salf.

Rub the lime wedge along the rim of each glass and then roll it into salt on a rimmed plate. Then fill each glass ⅓ of the way with ice.

    2 - Shake & Serve

Grab your cocktail shaker and fill it half way with ice cubes.

    Pouring juice in shaker.

To the ice add the guava nectar.

Guava Margarita Overhead looking into shaker.

Top with tequila, simple syrup, and juice from the other lime. Place the top on tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

Guava Margarita Pouring cocktail through shaker into salted glass.

Remove the small top to the shaker and pour the drink through the strainer top. Divide it evenly between the two glasses.

Guava Margarita Overhead of glass of pink margarita on the rocks garnished with lime slice.

Top with a slice or wedge of lime. ENJOY!

    Serving Tips

This drink is best enjoyed ice cold so enjoy immediately before it waters down.

You can also make a big batch in a pitcher by multiplying it out --- yes, recipe math my favorite! The recipe card below will do it for you, up to 4x the original recipe. That's 8 glasses which would make a big batch of margaritas; great for any party!

Serve this with any Mexican meal or appetizers. Start with some Watermelon Salsa and chips. For dinner this margarita is great served with Chicken Enchiladas Suizas or Carnitas Burritos.

When to Serve Guavaritas: this is great for parties & Cinco de Mayo celebrations. I recommend serving this to guests by the pool, for outdoor birthdays, & backyard BBQs.

Like my Vodka Sunrise recipe, the gorgeous color is a showstopper. Your guests will think you went to a lot of trouble, but you didn't & that's our secret.

Recipe Tips & Behind the Scenes

Here's my recipe for success - including what I learned when testing, fun stories, recipe history, and more.

    • #1 Tip - fresh lime juice is best!
    • Guava nectar, juice, and puree can be used interchangeably for this recipe.
    • If you want a cocktail to serve with tacos, this is it.
    • This recipe took 3 tries to get it right. There was a panel of 3 of us shaking & sipping. We started with triple sec in the first batch and found it overpowered the guava so by the time batch 3 was made, we left it out and the splash of simple syrup made it perfect.
    • If you like a margarita with triple sec, add 1 ounce.
    • To make this a cadillac margarita, float a shot of Gran Marnier on top after pouring over ice.
    • Make a spicy margarita using Casamigos Blanco Jalapeno Tequila.
    • If you want a pastel drink without the alcohol, try my Pink Mocktail.

    FAQ

What brand of guava juice can I use?

Any nectar or pureed juice works. The most popular and easiest to find are Trader Joe's, Goya, Jumex, Kern's, Hawaiian Sun, Open Nature, Sunberry Farms, & Sun Tropics. You can also use a guava blend such as Aloha Maid passion guava.

What can I use if I don't have a cocktail shaker?

Don't have a cocktail shaker, use a mason jar or other container with a tight fitting screw top lid. Pour through a mesh colander or with the lid just slightly open/askew to strain.
