    Keto Road Trip Snacks

Staying on your diet is hardest when you are on the go. Let's be honest, travel can break your ketogenic lifestyle. Planning ahead and packing the Best Keto Snacks for a road trip (or plane ride) is what keeps me on track every time.

Images for keto snacks to pack for road trip travels including beef jerky and sugar-free chocolate.

In this shopping guide I will share my favorite keto products that are perfect for eating when on the go. Staying in ketosis is the only way a ketogenic diet will work. Ketosis is Key & these high-fat munchies are just the thing to pack when you travel!!

    What is Ketosis?

Ketosis is a metabolic state when the body burns fat for energy because it does not have enough carbohydrates to burn. When carbohydrates are drastically cut from the diet and replaced with fat and protein, ketosis can be achieved.

During ketosis, the liver produces chemicals called ketones. Ketones "spill" from the liver when there are no sugars to turn into energy.

How to Start a Ketogenic Diet?

To begin a keto diet, reaching ketosis and maintaining that metabolic state is important. If you cheat, the body shifts to a slower metabolic state and doesn't burn fat at the rate needed for weight loss and health.

Removing high carbohydrate foods from your home and your daily routine is key. Buying high fat, high protein, and calorie-dense food will ensure you do not go hungry and stay in ketosis. Always consult your physician before starting a diet.

Keto Meals & snacks should equal the following macros:

    • 70% FAT
    • 25% PROTEIN
    • 5% CARBOHYDRATES

    Keto Snack Recipes

All of these are high-fat & easy to make. Some will require packing a cooler to keep them fresh while others need no refrigeration. My favorite recipes for homemade keto snacks for road trips are:

It is so simple to cook marinated, canned, or frozen artichoke hearts in the oven on high heat to get a crispy outside and a tender inside. They're best as an appetizer, healthy snack, salad pizza topping, or side dish. They are gluten-free, grain-free, low-carb, vegan, vegetarian and keto. For a Spanish twist (alcachofa) or Italian take (carciofo) artichoke hearts are so versatile.

That Nature's Garden Keto Snack Mix is legit!! At first I thought it wasn't that exciting since it was pretty easy to buy all those things separately, but really it is the perfect balance (and keeps me from eating too many nuts at once time!!).
